Wimbledon 2022

DD and I attended the 2nd day of Wimbledon 2022.  We joined The Queue at 6am (luckily DD and SIL live close by) and we received numbers indicating we were just under 2000th in the queue! People had camped overnight in small tents to be first in the queue but we decided to give that a skip!  I don’t think they would’ve appreciated me bringing our caravan to sleep comfortably🤣

We got into the grounds at about 11am and got into Court 3 to watch 2 matches. The second match was the Kyrgios-Jubb match (the first match that Kyrgios played which got him his first huge fine!) which was VERY entertaining!  I really enjoyed it, and I am NOT a tennis fan art all. I will NOT stay glued to the TV to watch a tennis match! But this was live entertainment which I thoroughly enjoyed!

To commemorate the day, I bought a number of yarns at Handweavers Studio in some of the Wimbledon colours.  The Wimbledon colours are so beautiful and fresh and I got so much inspiration from the plants and flowers in the Wimbledon Grounds!

At the end of August I found the design I wanted to use (a Bateman design).  The design required 13 warp colours!!! It took me a day and a half to wind the warp and another day to beam, thread and sley the warp.  I tied it on and wove my sample piece, cut it off and washed it.  It is a beautiful piece and very soft after washing!

I have put cotton, tencel, acrylic, cottolin, rayon and viscose in the warp.  There are thick and thin yarns, and some are textured. The warp is sett at 14epi. It was quite a job to keep track of the warp while I was winding it!

The weft is a natural-coloured 200/2 bamboo. The scarves are woven 140cm long with twisted fringes.

I wove up the last section of warp in another treadling and covered a notebook with it.

This was a really enjoyable project. I so love the colours and the feel of the 2 scarves. I think DD and I will have many years of use and joy from them!
