Dyeing for therapy

On Wednesday I had to put Gizmo into a crate for the start of his long journey to America where his mommy and daddy are now living. I had been dog-sitting Gizmo for 7 weeks, and the little guy crept into my heart (not into the cat’s hearts though!). They hated him and are so glad he is gone!

I cried when I put him in the crate and said goodbye to him, as I knew it would be a few months before I can see him again!

Anyway, after he left, I prepared some fleece and wool and hit the dyeing room, not quite running, for some colour therapy!

The commercially spun wool is for the Fibre Breakaway in 10 days time (for the brioche headband course I am giving) and the fleece for spinning was added to fill up the space in the oven pan I used.

The pan went into the sun stove next to the pool, and sat there till the next day when I rinsed it out.

The wonderful thing about the sun stove is that it uses NO electricity, so is economically viable! As long as you are patient, you can expect brilliant results from sun stove dyeing!

I titled this post Dyeing for Therapy. For me, doing anything creative is therapy, whether it is knitting or crochet, or playing with colour. If you are sad or gloomy, or even at the end of your tether, give it a try. You’ll be amazed at how your mood improves.

  1. HI Anette, I can think the cats didn’t like Gizmo, good luck with Fibre Breakaway!

Yes our craft is our therapy.

    1. Thank goodness for our handmade therapy! It certainly keeps me sane in this crazy world.
